Chapter 7. Digital Wellness and a Professional Introduction
Chapter 7. Digital Wellness and a Professional Introduction
The same screen that delivers the course can exhaust the eyes, shorten sleep, and blur the line between rest and work. Wellness here is not a slogan. It is a set of limits that keep you able to study next week.
Fatigue you can measure
If you cannot remember the paragraph you just finished, you are done with the screen for a while. Stand, look at something more than six meters away for twenty seconds, and drink water. After 45 to 50 minutes, take a real break that is not another feed. Do not schedule study in the hour you need for sleep. A tired reading session feels productive and leaves almost nothing you can recall.
Boundaries
Turn off course notifications during family or work hours you have already promised to other people. Tell those people when you are in class so they do not have to guess. Keep one device path for study if you can, so entertainment apps are not on the same first screen as the chapter. If you feel dread before every session, shorten the session rather than skipping the week. Consistency beats heroics.
A professional introduction
A public career profile, such as the kind employers browse, should read like the strong email in Chapter 3. Use your name, a plain photo if you choose to use one, a headline that says what you do or what you are preparing to do, and a short paragraph with specific skills. “Hard worker” is not specific. “Tracks inventory and writes weekly summaries for a retail team” is specific. Do not invent a job title, a degree, or a certificate you have not earned. This free ACE 100 certificate may be listed only as a non-credit certificate of completion in online learning strategies. It is not a degree and it does not award semester credit.
What to leave off a public profile
Your full birth date, government ID, home address, phone number if you do not want strangers to call it, and complaints about an employer or a classmate. A profile is a public document. Write it as if a future instructor and a future supervisor will both read it, because they might.
